Why Write
We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.
Thomas Jefferson – 3rd president of US (1743 – 1826)
If you listen to the news, everybody is to blame for our current conditions. Its the fault of the Democrats, the Republicans, the lobbyists, the Supreme Court, the President, the Governor. People pick up on this and we sit in church halls, beer halls, soccer stands, grocery stores and complain. We have to realize, nobody who can change the way things get done will hear our message. So nothing gets done. Nothing changes.
A former Missouri State Senator Jim Lembke said that if his office received 10 emails on a subject, someone in the office looked into it. If they received twenty-five emails on a subject, they all looked into it.
The lobbyists and special interest groups are being heard because they are the only ones talking. This website encourages us to change that, to level the playing field. But even on a level playing field, you have to play, you have to get involved.
Here we share what we write to our government leaders in hopes to encourage others to do the same. Not only to join their voice to ours but to share their ideas so that we might do the same.
Please feel free to comment on what you see here. If you want to share some of your own letters, please comment on that as well. We’ll contact you and post your letters for all to read.
Some wise old Republican once said “that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
Lincoln was a wise man but his words, while enlightening are not without a cost to all of us. Government is both ‘of’ and ‘by’ the people. That means, like Thomas Jefferson said years earlier we have a government of those that participate.
So participate. We can make a better America.
